Stephen Tester, - Works on Paper
He has been enamoured with monochrome imagery ever since he made his first black and white darkroom print when he was 9 years old. Using equipment and techniques circa 1860 he progressed to making individually hand crafted Palladium prints from in - camera negatives. In 2010 Stephen produce his first series of intaglio prints using a modern variation on the 1860 photogravure technique using the 1860/70 architecture of the Central Goldfields in Victoria, Australia as the theme. Stephen’s work with intaglio printing opened his eyes to the creative opportunities of printing and works on paper. Being naturally interested in traditional techniques that produced monochrome tonal images he started his making small mezzotint images 4 years ago; little knowing that this would become an encompassing passion requiring all his attention. He has exhibited his intaglio work in Sydney, Melbourne, Goldstreet Gallery and QGW Victoria. Stephen lives and works in Castlemaine, Victoria.
